Someone said you forget the pain of childbirth as time goes by. I thought about that comment and about the suffering Jesus went through.
The idea that He’d forget the pain with time crossed my mind – and it would get easier to love us over time as the pain grew further into the past. But when I considered that He is outside of time, I realized that being outside of time works both ways: not only could He forgive sins committed by people who lived long before He came to Earth because He knew He would come and pay for all sin, but the pain and suffering of the cross will never grow dim with passing time. Just as He stands crucified throughout all time, He loves us deeply despite the suffering that is necessary for a relationship with us, suffering that remains intensely fresh throughout all time. It made His love suddenly more precious.
